Last Sunday evening we started a new Bible study for college students. We have had a number of team members attending an English Corner at the local university for about five weeks. At these English Corners, we have already had many opportunities to clearly give the Gospel, and we have had several students attend some of our already-existing Sunday night house-church services at 7:30 p.m. Last week several of the students asked us if there was another time that they could learn more about the Bible, so we invited them to come to our Sunday night service, but they said that the public buses quit running at 8:00 p.m. If they came for our 7:30 p.m. service, they wouldn’t have a way to get back to the college. We don’t have vehicles that we can use to pick them up, so we agreed that we would start a new service at 5:00 p.m. just for these college students. We had 9 students come to this first service. Two of these students were already saved, but 4 of the remaining 7 students chose to trust Christ! Then all 4 of them were also baptized! As the students were saying goodbye and getting ready to head out to catch the public bus back to the university, our regular members began to arrive for our 7:30 p.m. service! It was quite an exciting evening, as our regular members were also able to meet the new believers who had just been baptized.
The next day (Monday evening), we again went to the English Corner at the university, and these students who had been at our meeting the night before were very excited. They had also told many of their friends about their decisions and about the meeting, so many more of the students asked us if they could also come. One of the young men who had gotten saved and baptized the night before went around to every discussion group at the English Corner and told all the students how he had become a Christian and was now part of God’s family!
Our biggest concern now is simply having enough room in our apartments for all the students who want to come to our services. We are already making plans to divide and start more meetings at different times and at different places. We are also considering the possibility of renting an apartment near the college just for the purpose of holding Bible studies with these college students who are very hungry for truth. Please pray for this work among these college students who are the future of this country, and pray specifically for young men to be called into service for God so that we will have enough leaders, teachers, and preachers for this great harvest of souls.
