“. . . to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10)
In contemplating this update, that verse came to mind, and it expresses what my life for the Lord has been about for the past 32 years. At 22 years of age, I began living a consecrated life for the Lord, and the primary emphasis, aside from walking with God and spending time in His Word, was leading people to Christ.
“. . . I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. And this I do for the gospel’s sake . . . .”
(I Corinthians 9:22-23)
This verse encapsulates my soul-winning focus. I want to win people to Christ by the most efficient and effective way. I have learned that here, that way is by “random” interactions. It is less difficult to win people to Christ outside of their comfort zones; a neutral environment works best.
While soul winning, a group of teen girls I had previously led to Christ walked by and said hi. A few minutes later, one of the girls came back to find me and asked if she could “pray with me” too. The rest of the girls caught up with us and saw her personally receiving Christ as her Saviour. After the prayer and while saying goodbye, I noticed one of the girls’ eyes “shining” with joy and found out it was her sister who had come back to pray with me.
A gas attendant offered to pump my gas. Instead, I pumped the gas and asked him if he knew for sure he would go to Heaven. He did not know and allowed me to explain the Gospel to him and lead him to Christ. After we finished praying together, another gas attendant stepped around from the other side of the pump and with smiling face said, “Thank you, Pastor.” No one really knows who might be listening.
Island Baptist Church is truly the Lord’s doing. God has brought the faithful, contributing folks to Island Baptist Church. I cannot take credit for them. All the door knocking, follow-up, and picking up people for church over the decades cannot compare to it. What has lasted, what has remained, is what the Lord has done, and I thank Him for it. “This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.” (Psalm 118:23)
Thank you for continuing to pray for us and support us. We know your prayers have played their part in the successes of soul winning and the progress of Island Baptist Church. Please continue to pray for our health and safety, Island Baptist Church, Guam, and Micronesia.
In His harvest field,
