Nick and Beth Watt Prayer Letter: Opportunity to Purchase Church BuildingThank you to all of those who have already pledged to the possibility of buying the building we currently lease. The church met on Sunday evening; we discussed at length the possibility of the offer and agreed to go ahead. We understand that it is a step of faith, not just in finances but also in the moving of the current owner’s heart.

Here is a brief summary of the situation. We lease a building that is being put on the market as an investment opportunity. It has a flat (apartment) attached to it that is currently tenanted. The owner is (rightly so) hoping to sell the property as an investment property with a solid yearly return. However, we are growing out of the space and have already started looking elsewhere with the end of our lease period a year and a half away. If we could buy the building outright, it would give us the use of the flat, too, and we could work with the space available. We have most of the money needed for an offer, but it is an offer that is lower, as we are not receiving the benefit of the yearly return on the investment.

So, I am asking if you would consider pledging towards helping us with the offer we are putting in. The amount pledged we are hoping to achieve is NZ$40,000. Currently, we have approximately NZ$15,500 pledged. This number is approximated due to currency exchange rates from the U.S. to New Zealand. Every US$1,000 currently equates to approximately NZ$1,600. The total goal of NZ$40,000 gives some flexibility to negotiate the price and some funds for urgent repairs to the building.

Prayer Requests:
● Pray that we reach the pledge goal of NZ$40,000 (currently at NZ$15,500).
● Pray that our offer is the only offer made.
● Pray for the confirmation of the legal use of the building with our local government.
○ There are concerns that the premises has never been legally approved for a community gathering space.
○ It has historically been being used as a church building since the early 90s.
● Pray for the church’s ability to maintain other financial obligations.
● Pray for faithfulness in giving from the people who make up our church.
○ The giving must start with us.
○ Our church family is still praying about pledges.
