I pray this letter finds you well. The situation here in Honduras is not anywhere near back to normal. There is still a 10:00 p.m. curfew here in Tegucigalpa. In the city of Campamento, where our mission church is located, an 8:00 p.m. curfew was set in place for the next two weeks, while circulation is limited to only 20% of the population (a person may only go out on their designated day according to the last digit of their state ID). According to the government, until everybody gets vaccinated, we will still be limited as to what we can or cannot do. This can be frustrating, especially when they have barely vaccinated part of the medical personnel. Being a third-world country, Honduras will be at the end of the line, as far as being able to purchase enough vaccines. Until then, please pray that this situation will improve.
Since the media has done a great job of instilling “COVID fear” into the population, some of our families refuse to attend church in fear of catching the disease. I was a little “disappointed” at a family that had not come since the beginning of the pandemic. I saw the husband at the hardware store the other day and said, “Hi.” He told me to come by his house because he had an offering that he wanted to give to the church. While at his house, I found out that his wife’s two sisters and a brother had all died in August of last year due to COVID-19. This reminded me of how easy it is for one to have a judgmental spirit without having walked in the other person’s shoes. It seems that even though we ought not to be afraid of this virus, we definitely need to respect it.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we have not been able to go soul winning via door knocking, yet God always sends people our way who need to be saved. The other day, I led a young man named Javier to the Lord at a youth meeting. Also, one Sunday after the church service, two kids named Luis (10) and Lester (11), whom I had previously invited to come to church, came over to greet me. I inquired about their salvation, but neither was sure of his salvation. I was able to lead both Lester and Luis to the Lord at the altar.
Our oldest son Juan just finished his freshman year at Bible college. Our second son Gerson will be headed to Bible college this fall to study music. He plays the guitar, some piano, and loves to sing. Pray that he will do well. He will need a vehicle to get to and from work. I was wondering if anybody out there would have a vehicle that he would be willing to sell at a good price. If so, please contact me through my email at osmin.gutierrez@fbmi.org.
Thank you for your prayer and financial support.
Truly,
Osmin Gutierrez
