We were not able to make it to Ecuador in time for the Youth Conference, which was held in early March. Pastor Gallo was disappointed but understood that you can’t rush back-ordered parts. The conference was a huge success, with over 800 youth in attendance! More than 80 surrendered to full-time service, and many got saved and baptized. We regret missing it, but we will be there for the next one.
We are still waiting for the certification of the runway. Unfortunately, the governor of the region is refusing to certify it due to the allegations of it being used for drug running. He is the one who ordered the destruction that happened last year. Fortunately, his last day in office was the middle of last week. Pastor Gallo has already requested a meeting with the new governor. Please pray for a favorable outcome.
We have finally received all of the back-ordered parts and are very busy getting everything finished. The last of the structural work is done, and the wiring is only about a week away from being finished. I believe that we are about three weeks away from being ready for the inspections and paperwork.
Irene has been improving. While we were in Mexico in December, she was able to visit her neurologist. He adjusted her medication, and she got to about 95% of normal by the end of that prescription. He has told her to continue it for another two weeks, but we need to get it from Mexico since it is not available in the United States. We’ll be able to get it in a couple of weeks when her sister comes for a visit. My surgery went very well. We spent three weeks in Mexico and then traveled to California and spent two weeks there with family to finish my basic recovery. I was not supposed to do any physical labor during the first six weeks. I am now fully recovered, but I will still have to get help when moving heavy items. It is very nice, though, to be able to work normally again.
While out soul winning, we met Max. Max is from Mexico but speaks English fluently. We were able to lead Max to Christ! Not long after, the Spanish pastor here was at Sam’s Club eating in the café with his family. He was dressed for church since it was Sunday. A man came up to him and asked him if he was a pastor. He said yes and then invited him to church. He came the next week with his wife, their two children, and a niece. Since they were in the English service and the Spanish pastor was not, we talked with them after the service and were able to lead all five of them to Christ. The really funny thing is that the man’s name is Chris Williams! They have been coming often since then.
We have attended Missions Conferences in both Michigan and Texas. Both churches took us on for support. We are thankful to have more people praying for people in Ecuador to get saved and for us as we finish preparing to go. We would also like to thank those of you who sent extra gifts for Christmas. They were a great blessing to us.

La conferencia juvenil en Ecuador se llevó a cabo en marzo, pero no pudimos asistir. El pastor Gallo estuvo decepcionado, pero comprendió que no se puede apresurar la entrega de las piezas atrasadas que nos faltan. La conferencia fue todo un éxito, ¡con más de 800 jóvenes asistentes! Más de 80 se entregaron al servicio de tiempo completo, y muchos fueron salvaron y bautizados. Lamentamos no haber podido ir, pero estaremos presentes para la próxima.
Aún estamos esperando la certificación de la pista. Desafortunadamente, el gobernador de la región se niega a certificarla debido a las acusaciones hechas anteriormente donde se acusan de narcotráfico. Él fue quien ordenó la destrucción de la pista el año pasado. Afortunadamente, su último día en el cargo fue a mediados de la semana pasada. El pastor Gallo ya solicitó una reunión con el nuevo gobernador. Por favor, oren por un resultado favorable.
Por fin hemos recibido todas las piezas atrasadas y estamos muy ocupados terminando todo. El último trabajo estructural ya está hecho y el cableado está a solo una semana de terminar. Creo que faltan unas tres semanas para que estemos listos para las inspecciones y el papeleo.
Irene ha estado mejorando de su vertigo. Mientras estábamos en México en diciembre, pudo visitar a su neurólogo. Le ajustó el medicamento y al final del tratamiento, recuperó el 95% de lo normal. El doctor le ha dicho que la continúe durante dos semanas más, pero necesitamos conseguir la medicina en México, ya que no está disponible en Estados Unidos. En un par de semanas cuando su hermana venga de visita, la va a traer. Mi cirugía salió muy bien, gracias a Dios. Pasamos tres semanas en México, luego viajamos a California y pasamos dos semanas allí con mi familia para terminar mi recuperación. No pude realizar ningún trabajo físico durante las primeras seis semanas. Ahora estoy completamente recuperado y todavía necesito pedir ayuda para mover objetos pesados, pero estoy muy contento de poder volver a trabajar con normalidad.
Mientras estábamos ganando almas, conocimos a Max. Max es de México, pero habla inglés con fluidez. ¡Pudimos guiar a Max a Cristo! Poco después, el pastor hispano estaba en Sam’s Club comiendo en la cafetería con su familia. Estaba vestido para la iglesia, ya que era domingo. Un hombre se le acercó y le preguntó si era pastor. Dijo que sí y lo invitó a la iglesia. Vino la semana siguiente con su esposa, sus dos hijos y una sobrina. Como ellos asistían al servicio en inglés y el pastor hispano no, hablamos con ellos después del servicio y pudimos guiarlos a los cinco a Cristo. ¡Lo más curioso es que el hombre se llama Chris Williams! Desde entonces, han venido con frecuencia.
Hemos asistido a conferencias misioneras tanto en Michigan como en Texas. Ambas iglesias nos aceptaron para apoyarnos. Estamos agradecidos de que haya más personas orando por la salvación de las personas en Ecuador, y por nosotros mientras terminamos de prepararnos para ir. También queremos agradecer a quienes enviaron regalos extra para Navidad. Fueron una gran bendición para nosotros.
