Our mechanic was finally able to get back to the inspections after a two-month recovery process, which included three hospital stays. Thank you for praying for him. He has completed the inspections, and all discrepancies have been corrected. We are now knee-deep in the required paperwork. There is much more paperwork to do than I had hoped for, but that’s what happens when the government is involved. They see almost no difference between our plane and an airliner regarding the repair and reporting process. I feel that we are about halfway done with the paperwork at this point. We have been waiting for the registration to be completed. It must be done before the paperwork can be filed. The aircraft registration department has been very slow recently. UPDATE: I just received word from the FAA that the registration is now being processed. We can finally start filing the paperwork and will soon be able to start flying.
We have taken delivery of our container and are starting to pack our things that we will be sending to Ecuador. We have been so blessed to have been given many things that will be needed on the field. Being able to take all of the tools needed to maintain the airplane is also a great blessing. We are ready to start on the process of obtaining our Ecuadorian visas. Next, we will hire a shipping company to guide us through the rules and regulations regarding what we can take with us and then to ship the container.
I have received several inquiries regarding the reported violence problems that have been happening in Ecuador. The new president of Ecuador is very strongly against the drug cartels. Since COVID, the cartels have been trying to take over all of the gangs and port cities so that they can control the ports and use them to ship their drugs. This has led to Ecuador officially declaring war against the cartels. There have been targeted assassinations against political opponents who have spoken out against the cartels. Since almost all of this activity is in the port cities, we expect to see little to no complications in the jungle. However, what we have seen is a general distrust of all Mexicans. This is because the cartels that are invading are from Mexico. Since our friend, Pastor Gallo, is Mexican, we believe this is why he has not been able to get the final runway approval. This means that we will be going back to our original plan of basing the airplane out of the airport in Macas until we can get everything worked out with our own facility. We have a place in Macas to keep the airplane hangered and will also have access to mechanics.
In the past few weeks, we met a young man named Eliott while out soul winning. He was mowing the lawn but was happy to take a break to listen to the Gospel. He decided to trust in Christ as his Saviour. A couple of weeks ago, we came across Marcus, who was working on cleaning his garage. He also attentively listened and decided to put his faith in Jesus Christ. We are so blessed to have had the opportunity to meet these men and are thankful that their hearts were open to the Gospel!

Tras dos meses de recuperacion incluyendo tres hospitalizaciones, nuestro mecánico finalmente pudo retomar las inspecciones de la avioneta. Gracias por orar por él. El ha completado las inspecciones y se han corregido todas las irregularidades. Ahora estamos inmersos con todos los documentos que se necesitan. Hay mucho más papeleo del que esperaba, pero eso es lo que pasa cuando el gobierno interviene. Casi no hacen diferencia entre nuestro avión y un avión comercial en cuanto al proceso de reparación e informes. Creo que ya hemos completado la mitad del papeleo. Hemos estado esperando a que se finalice el registro, debe estar listo antes de poder presentar la documentación. El departamento de registro de aeronaves ha estado muy lento últimamente. ACTUALIZACIÓN: Acabo de recibir noticias de la FAA de que el registro ya está en trámite. Por fin podemos empezar a presentar la documentación y pronto podremos volar.
Hemos recibido nuestro contenedor y estamos empezando a empacar las cosas que enviaremos a Ecuador. Hemos tenido la gran bendicion de haber recibido muchas de las cosas que necesitaremos en el campo. Poder llevar todas las herramientas necesarias para el mantenimiento del avión también es una gran bendición. Estamos listos para comenzar el proceso para obtener nuestras visas ecuatorianas. El siguiente paso es contratar una empresa de transporte que nos guíe con las normas y regulaciones sobre lo que podemos llevar y luego enviar el contenedor.
He recibido varias preguntas sobre los reportados problemas de violencia que han estado ocurriendo en Ecuador. El nuevo presidente de Ecuador se opone firmemente a los cárteles de la droga. Desde la pandemia, los cárteles han intentado apoderarse de todas las bandas y ciudades portuarias para controlar los puertos y usarlos para transportar su droga. Esto ha llevado a Ecuador a declarar oficialmente la guerra contra los cárteles. Ha habido varios asesinatos contra opositores políticos que se han declarado estar en contra de los cárteles. Dado que casi toda esta actividad se concentra en las ciudades portuarias, esperamos pocas o ningunas complicaciónes en la selva. Sin embargo, lo que hemos visto es una desconfianza generalizada hacia todos los mexicanos. Esto se debe a que los cárteles que están invadiendo son de México. Dado que nuestro amigo, el pastor Gallo, es mexicano, creemos que esta es la razón por la que no ha podido obtener la aprobación final de la pista. Esto significa que volveremos a nuestro plan original de tener el avión como base en el aeropuerto de Macas hasta que podamos resolver los impedimentos en nuestra propia instalacion. Ya tenemos un hangar asegurado en Macas para el avión y también tendremos acceso a mecánicos.
En las últimas semanas conocimos a un joven llamado Eliott mientras ganaba almas. Estaba cortando el césped, pero feliz de tomarse un descanso para escuchar el Evangelio, decidió confiar en Cristo como su salvador. Hace un par de semanas, nos encontramos con Marcus, quien estaba limpiando su garaje. Él también estuvo dispuesto a escuchar y decidió poner su fe en Jesucristo. ¡Es una bendicion el haber encontrado a estos hombres con un corazon abierto y dispuestos a recibir el mensaje de salvacion!
