Dr. Speer’s Report on Trip to Liberia: In July of 2011, our church (FBCI in Kumasi) sent six Liberian families back to their home country to plant a church in Monrovia, the capital city. Bro. George Menyon was the leader of this group; and he, with the help of some of the other families, started the Grandview Baptist Church of Monrovia. George’s church is named in honor of the Grandview Baptist Church of Oregon, pastored by Bro. Mike Mutchler. The church there has faithfully supported George for two years and contributed greatly in helping all the families with money to get back to Liberia.
Wonderful News Confirmed! We have been receiving awesome reports from George regularly for two years. George reported that his church was averaging 200 and that he had led others to start 8 other churches. I was excited but skeptical. At the end of November 2013, Bro. Charles Osgood and I traveled to Liberia to see for ourselves. We were thrilled! We found things to be even better than George had reported.
The People: The people of Liberia are very open to the Gospel and speak very good English. I had a fun time witnessing there, and one of my converts showed up to church for our Sunday morning service. The members of Grandview are active and excited about ministry. There are many educated, responsible adults in the church. The church currently meets in a small school building with no electricity; but the Spirit of the Lord is there, and the church is growing. The harvest is truly ripe in this country.
A Vision for Liberia: George has a vision to reach each of the 15 counties in Liberia. They have already started 8 different churches in 6 counties; 4 of these churches are pastored by our graduates from Hyles-Anderson College of West Africa. More men are being trained to go and start churches. He has rallied many national pastors for the cause of soul winning and church planting. While in Monrovia, George brought together about 45 pastors for 2 days, and I had the privilege of teaching them about soul winning.
“I could not have been more pleased with the ministry of George Menyon.”—Dr. Ted Speer
