As many of you might have heard, our country went through two hurricanes the last two months of 2020. It caused a lot of destruction, especially on the north side of the country. The only positive thing that came out of this was that the COVID lockdown that had been set prior to the hurricanes was mostly lifted because of the disaster. Now they are talking about going back into the lockdown, but we’ll see what happens. Despite there still being some people who refuse to attend our church services because of their fear of catching COVID, the Lord has added a few new families to the church, for which we rejoice.
On a more positive note, last December, a group of teenagers from our church attended Youth Camp. They had a great time! Many made decisions for Christ. One of the first-time campers was a little boy named Anthony. He is 12 years old, but he looks more like an 8-year-old, probably because of insufficient nutrition during his childhood. After I dropped them off at the camp, I couldn’t help but think—and I am pretty sure of this—that he probably ate better food the week of camp than he had eaten the previous 12 years of his life. He came back excited about the Lord. I am glad the Lord put him in our path.
The church construction in Campamento continues to go forward. Last week we built a septic tank, thanks to $1,500 in donations from an individual and a church in Georgia. Our church gave about $500, but we are still short about $500 more to finish it up. If you would like to help with this need, let me know. This week we will be laying the foundation for the bathroom floor and putting up the bathroom door. Finally, the bathroom will be ready for use!
An interesting thing happened during the construction. In order to save money, I was going to have the mason (a member of our church whom I had brought from our city) stay on the church property. A businessman, who has recently started attending the church, said, “No, the church is not suitable for him to stay there. Let’s put him up in a hotel; I will pay for it!” He paid for five nights at a hotel room for our mason and his helper. Praise God!
Most importantly, God is moving in the hearts of the people. A young man named Olvin, who is excited about serving God, will be starting Bible college next week!
