“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
In the last month, we have been blessed to see the Lord working in the lives of many. My wife and I attended a great marriage retreat and were able to encourage our converts, J___ and J___ to join also. After work, they raced three hours up the road in order to spend the next day listening to good biblical counseling for their marriage. It was a great time and a big blessing to see a young Chinese couple making the effort to put God first in their lives.
I also had the privilege to meet A___. I was outside Illinois Institute of Technology passing out tracts to anyone who would take one on a frigid day. About 10 students were walking down the sidewalk, so I got my tracts ready. One by one they passed by, wagging their head and saying “No. No, thank you. I’m good.” A bit frustrated, I turned to see a tall young man walking my way, wearing a mask with his toboggan hat pulled down low—not a good sign. I thought, Lord, I just ask for one divine appointment today. Is that too hard to work out?
I handed the young man a tract, and he stopped walking and looked at it. I asked if he would be going to Heaven. He said, “Yes, I have been confirmed, but I’m not really into that stuff anymore.” He agreed to let me show him what the Bible says about going to Heaven. We talked some more, and he told about some hard things he had gone through. I told him the testimony of some young men who had gotten saved in China. He seemed open, so I explained the difference between his first answer about salvation and what the Bible says. I then asked if he’d like to pray, but he was uncertain. We then talked about how God works in people’s lives, and I mentioned the example of God putting me in his path for a reason. I then asked him one more time about praying, and he replied, “I’m beginning to think that I should do this.” A few moments later, A___ bowed his head and prayed the sinner’s prayer. We were both thrilled about his decision! I arranged to meet him the next day and drive him to church. Maybe you don’t, but at times I get frustrated waiting on the Lord to work, but when you get to see Him change lives, it is well worth the wait! Pray for A___ to grow spiritually and in his knowledge of God’s Word.
Some days later, I was at a conference in Yuma, Arizona. We had the opportunity to go soul winning with the teens. That day I was partnered with a good guy who was looking to build his faith and courage to go soul winning. The first person we talked to was F___. As I stood talking to F___, it was evident that God was teaching my partner that soul winning works everywhere for everyone. F___ opened up and with every response indicated that he really wanted to know the Lord. A few minutes later, F____ had accepted Christ and was ready to visit the church, and my partner was filled with courage to give the Gospel to everyone we saw! God is so good to us!
