We are a month into our new church plant, and God has shown Himself strong time and time again. We wanted to share a quick update to tell everyone about what He is doing!
We had our first service on September 24, and we had big plans. We were excited to get things off the ground, and then reality hit. Heather got very sick that week, so we were very limited in what we could do to get the word out. I had been busy getting the building ready, but when she got sick, I ended up staying home and taking care of her and our son. We fully expected to be the only ones there on that Sunday. We talked about canceling the service, but we didn’t even have any contacts with whom to cancel.
We got to the church on Sunday morning and opened the doors, and slowly but surely, people started showing up. In total, we had 4-5 families that first week and 20 people. People had found the church on Facebook, through word of mouth, and by just walking by and seeing the sign in the window. It was all God working to build His church.
From there, we have had more than 30 each week, with visitors and people saved, and this last Sunday we had 44. Heather started our first kids’ class with 8 little ones. Also, we had our second week of evangelism with those who are coming to the services, and this Saturday, 11 of us got together to go out, invite others, and share the good news of salvation with those who live around there.
It is a fun adventure that we are on, and the craziest part is that we haven’t even had a Grand Opening yet. That will be on October 29, and we are already looking at how to have more space in order to accommodate more people on a big day. Please pray for God to work on the 29th and for everything to go smoothly. We have been amazed at what He is doing, and we want Him to be glorified in everything.
Thank you to so many of you who have given and prayed for the work here. God is doing big things, and we are humbled to be a part of it. Thanks for helping us to reach Peruvians here in Lima.
Serving Him,
Josh, Heather, and Joseph Hedderman
