“And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in
Jerusalem greatly . . . .” (Acts 6:7)
Greetings from Guatemala! The Baptist work here continues steadfastly, thanks to the love, support, and prayers of God’s people. Thank you so much for your wonderful encouragement! We love you all!
Jail Ministry
The work at our Jail Ministry continues strong. As you know, I now have monthly preaching engagements with Pastor Abad at the state prison where Brother Abad was pastoring for nearly two years. Please pray that there will be visible results in the lives of those to whom we are ministering there.
Cristo Rey
People here in the town of Cristo Rey are sitting up and taking notice that the Baptists among them are not going away! We are still going strong! Far from being beaten, we are working harder than ever now in the wake of our latest difficulty. Last month we had a Christmas dinner here on the property with a full house. In the months of November and December, we were pleased to host team missionary Jenny Rarrick. Her presence among us was a great blessing to our people, and her work was a tremendous boost to our ministry.
Santa Catarina Pinula
The Baptist work in the town of Santa Catarina Pinula continues forging ahead. This month we have begun renting a piece of bare property to use for a new meeting place, but we have not been able to build upon it due to lack of resources. We need $1,000 to buy materials with which to build the needed structure to meet in, and at this time, we don’t have it. Please pray that God will provide this need.
New Work Contemplated
We received a wonderful answer to prayer with the arrival of a young family returning to Guatemala from a Baptist church in Tapachula, Mexico. Mauro and Isabel have come to us already trained as soul winners and have settled with their two children in the nearby town of San José Pinula. We intend to take advantage of this exciting opportunity to use their experience to start a new bus route in that town, with the eventual goal of turning the route into a permanent, self-sustaining church in San José Pinula. Please pray that God will give us a bus for this purpose.
Final Note
I will be visiting churches in the United States from March to May of this year. Please let me know if your church can have me during that timeframe. God bless you all. We wish all of you a Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Angel Lopez
