Abram Gomez Prayer Letter: Discipling, Downsizing, and . . . Departing SoonThese past few months have been an exciting time of transition, growth, and, of course, deputation. The ministry I have been serving with for the past few years has gone through a huge transformation: Emmanuel Baptist Rescue Mission, which has been located in the Skid Row district of Downtown Los Angeles, has moved and morphed into a men’s discipleship program in Pomona, California. This transition was both difficult and disheartening to many of our supporting churches, staff, and program guys, but having been here at the new location for almost a month, I’ve personally witnessed growth and encouragement like never before in the guys we are investing in. It has been a privilege for me to fellowship with and disciple these men who are seeking whole-life transformation, and as I do so, I can’t help but imagine my doing a similar work soon with men in Ghana, West Africa.

With this transition came quite a bit of downsizing. Moving from a rather large facility to a small, apartment-sized unit with four other guys, I had to get rid of quite a bit of things. This was also a blessing to me because I will inevitably need to downsize before leaving for Ghana in May/June of 2026. I am reminded that this city, this country, this world is not my home—I’m just passing through. Physical belongings are of little importance; what’s done for Christ is of utmost importance. As my departure date draws nearer, I am continuing the admittedly difficult task of parting with my pet, my truck, my business, and my belongings. Pray for me.

I also recently had the opportunity to go on a weeklong missions trip to Palmares, Costa Rica. I served with two churches, performing various painting and construction projects, and was overjoyed to pass out hundreds of John & Romans, as well as preach, present, and polish a truck for my good friend, Samuel White, a second-generation missionary doing a great work leading his family and church.

I am at about 60% of my target monthly support, and I still need quite a bit of support in a short amount of time. Please, please, please pray that God connects me with the right people and churches who will partner with me in fervent prayer and financial support so that I can get to and stay in Ghana, where I will help train nationals to start and sustain Gospel-centered churches. Please also pray that God will continue to prepare my heart and mind for the work that He has called me to do. Thank you so much for your love and prayerful support.

For the sake of the Gospel,

Abram Gomez
