As we near the close of 2024 and look back on all God has done this year, we are so thankful for His amazing goodness and blessing! He has protected us as we covered thousands of miles on the road, provided for our physical and financial needs, taught us some valuable lessons, and allowed us to make many lifelong friends along the way. We have been in 135 churches since we started deputation and are at 91% of our support goal! With Christmas right around the corner, we are finishing out our last meetings of the year and look forward to spending some time with family over the holiday season.
We had the privilege of being at several incredible Missions Conferences over the last couple months, one of which was at Midwestern Baptist Church in Omaha, Nebraska, with Pastor Mark Bentley. One of the other missionary families there was Tim and Missy Shook, my aunt and uncle, with whom we will be working in Thailand. It was a joy to spend a little bit of time with them and talk about plans for when we arrive in Thailand!
While at the conference in Omaha, the church had us stay in a nice hotel nearby. One afternoon, as we were walking through the lobby of the hotel, we passed a young man and a young lady sitting at a table. It looked as though they were waiting for someone. I gave them a tract and asked them what they were doing there. The young lady told me that her mother was applying for a job at the hotel and that she was there to help translate for her mom, who only spoke Spanish. I took the opportunity to witness to them. When I got to the end of presenting the Gospel and told them that they needed to accept Christ to be saved, Yadiel, the young man, asked, “Is that something we can do right now?” They both bowed their heads and asked Jesus into their hearts.
