The more opportunities open up for us to minister to the people here, the more Satan kicks back. We thank the Lord for the small team God has put us in. We are able to support and encourage each other and fill in when the other is in need. In December and January, we will be temporarily stepping in for our missionary pastor and his family while they go on a short furlough. Please keep us and Pastor Abel Gallardo’s family in prayer during their time traveling around in the USA.
Mother’s Day
Every August, which is when Thai Mother’s Day is celebrated, we’d organize a special service in our previous place of service to honor the mothers represented by children who attended our church. Unfortunately, nearly every time, we’d have a special service with gifts for the children to give to their mothers, but no mothers came. Last year, our first year in San Sai, Chiang Mai, one mother attended. This year, Tiffany, who is the main organizer of the program, began preparing in July. Gifts were prepared, the church was decorated, everyone was praying, and the children practiced and practiced a special song to honor their mothers. It was announced during our Saturday program and church services for the children to invite their mothers for a special service on Sunday evening. Most of the children who come on Saturday don’t attend on Sunday. We were hoping for maybe 5 mothers to come. To our surprise, mothers, along with their children, kept trickling in throughout the service. By the end of the preaching time, 17 mothers were sitting in our church and had the opportunity to hear the Gospel. Fifteen of the mothers had never attended our church before that day. This year is our second year to organize a special service for both churches in San Sai and Chom Tong. We are now praying and planning how we can start a program for the adults in hopes that they will also come to know Christ and begin attending services.
Many of you might remember us mentioning a young man named Wut, whom I led to the Lord around nine years ago and have mentored throughout the years. He attended the church we started in MaeSot. A few months ago, he moved to Chiang Mai not far from where we are; his girlfriend is attending university here. Praise the Lord, Wut’s girlfriend Pim has come to trust Christ as her Saviour and has been faithfully attending church with us. She has recently shared with us that she has wanted to be a Christian for a while, but her grandfather had had a bad experience with Seventh-Day Adventists sharing their faith, which turned him against Christianity. Now that she is no longer living under her family’s roof, she has the chance to know Christ. Please pray for her spiritual growth, and pray that Wut would find work that will allow him to stay involved in church.
Youth Camp
In October, the schools have a semester break, and Door of Life Baptist Church is holding its first and, hopefully, annual Youth Camp. For this first year, we will only be combining our 2 churches’ youth. We’ve rented a campground near our Chom Tong church and will be having around 25 campers under our care for 5 days. Please pray with us for safety and that lives will be impacted, that friendships will be developed, and that, most importantly, the youth will grow closer to our Lord.
We praise the Lord that Tiffany had safe travels to the U.S. and back. She had a wonderful 2½-week visit with family, friends, and 3 churches in the States. Thank you to those who warmly welcomed and encouraged her. We are especially appreciative for the financial gifts. We were able to purchase items for camp and sponsor 3 campers.
