Our school year in Guatemala is from January to the middle of October. That means that from the middle of October to December is when our schools are on vacation; it is our “Summer Break.” During this time is when we are the busiest here at Iglesia Bautista Bíblica Independiente. We just had two churches come down for back-to-back missions trips. Both groups were a great blessing to my family and to our church. Not only did they spoil us, but they also were a great encouragement to us and to our ministry. If your church would be interested in taking a missions trip to Guatemala, please let me know. It is one of the most inexpensive places to visit, and we would be honored to host you.
During our vacation time, we also have Vacation Bible School, which we are in the middle of right now. Bro. Ricky Torres came with his wife and 6 young people to help us this year. In the first 3 days, we have seen an average of 160 children attend and 10 saved. One route brought 44 children. It took about 15 minutes to figure out how to get them all into my 12-passenger van, but we did it. We are praying that many new families will be reached for Christ because of Vacation Bible School.
The first week of December, we have our 4th Annual Teen Camp. This year Bro. Luis Martinez will be preaching again for us. We are expecting over 50 teenagers to attend camp this year. Please pray that the Lord would work in the lives of everyone who attends. We are very thankful to the people who helped make this camp possible. I am sure that your generous gift will make an everlasting difference in the lives of many young people.
Alex, a young single man in our church who has gotten away from the Lord, had an accident on his motorcycle last month. He had a dislocated shoulder and a couple of torn tendons. He had two x-rays done, and both x-rays showed that he needed to have surgery to put a plate in his shoulder. The night before the surgery was supposed to take place, the men of our church prayed specifically for Alex during our regularly scheduled men’s meeting, which we have every Tuesday night. The next day when the Alex’s parents were in line to give blood so that Alex could have the operation, they were called and told that the last x-ray showed that his shoulder had healed and that he did not need the operation. This has really strengthened the faith of this faithful couple. Please pray with us that Alex would get back into church and start serving the Lord again.
I would like to thank Valley Baptist Church of Mesa, Arizona, and First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana, for the offering you sent us for our building project. We had a $2,000 bill to pay, and the money you sent us was not only able to cover this bill, but it also helped to buy more needed construction materials. Our church is praying for a total of Q1,000,000 or US$135,000 to finish this project. The Lord has faithfully provided every step of the way. To God be the glory!
His for souls,
