To the chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David.
“Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee,
when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
Psalm 61:1-2
A wonderful friend painted this passage on a canvas for my wife Laura during her cancer battle. It is a cry, I suspect, we will all have before the Lord at some stage!
The challenges of ministry, health, etc. all seem to compound, but praise God for His never-ending mercy. He often truly does work in mysterious ways, ways that lead to the focus being on Him and not us, providing we remain faithful. This was no less true in leading my first-ever funeral recently, though the Lord had me lead a memorial service almost two months ago.
I conducted my first full funeral and graveside service last week of a dear man, Les Smith (83), who came to know Christ at age 50. He was a retired fire chief who became a keen soul winner. It was my prayer that someone would respond to the Gospel as a result of preaching such a message (at his own previous request). It was not to be . . . or so I thought!
The evening of the day of the funeral, Les’s wife called me to let me know that friends in Brisbane, Queensland, way north of Tasmania, were watching the livestream broadcast of the funeral as a friend showed up for a visit to their home. Following the funeral, they opened their Bible and began to witness to her. Glory to God, Ann got saved.
It has been a busy time of preaching, teaching, and heading up church-wide soul winning; I am always encouraged by church members who are also faithful in seeking the lost. Even when it seems impossible to bear personal fruit in giving out the Gospel, God’s grace prevails in entirely unexpected ways. It is an ever-present reminder that He wants the glory each and every time.
Prayer Requests
1. Pray that the same kind of fruit will come from my personal soul winning.
2. Pray that our church will see continued growth from people reached in our city with the Gospel.
3. Pray that two young married mothers from our church will have smooth pregnancies. One is due with her fourth child by December, while the other is due with her third by mid-2026.
4. Pray that approval for a new leg brace for my right dystonic, cerebral-palsy leg and osteoarthritic knee will come soon, given that the existing brace is beginning to show signs of breaking. I can no longer walk anywhere without it.
It will be one year this October 23 that angels came to carry my beautiful wife to Glory. Many of you have shown your continued support in prayer and in writing notes of encouragement, as well as in monetary ways, even over and above the usual levels. Thank you! Thank you!
All for His glory,
Bro. Andrew L. Steers
