Psalm 126:5 & 6 – “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
Laura and I have multiple reasons to rejoice in the Lord more at the posting of this prayer letter than has been the case for quite some time. This includes the souls He has led us to see come to know the Saviour. The second reason is to learn of encouraging news regarding Laura’s health.
While out knocking on doors, we met a teenager named Ben. He had never heard the good news until we were able to speak with him as he was arriving home from school. What a joy it was to show him step by step how he could have eternal life. Standing on the front lawn of his home, he humbly bowed his head to trust Jesus as his only way to Heaven.
Another day, on the same street, we followed up with a family who were busy on our first visit. Jason was more than happy to sit down with me to hear the Gospel but was not quite ready to accept the gift of salvation. However, Laura was granted permission to speak to their nine-year-old daughter Cadence, who embraced the Gospel message and trusted Christ. Her mother told Laura they had just been talking about this! Please pray that we will see the entire family saved and that they will visit church.
Now, some greatly encouraging news regarding Laura’s health. In the last month, Laura has had two major (to her!) surgeries on her breast. The first was simply to take a sample of tissue, but she woke up to learn she’d had to have a partial mastectomy. Ten days later, she picked up something and caused a lot of bleeding, the reason for the second surgery. She is recuperating and is being very careful this time! The oncologist was excited to get “good information” from the tumor. She still has an aggressive form of breast cancer, but there is a 90% success rate of defeating it altogether. Nuclear testing showed the cancer is HER2+; she was diagnosed with triple- negative breast cancer five years ago on December 7. Once again, we are reminded of God’s amazing grace in claiming Romans 8:28 and Psalm 118:17, and we rejoice in His continued mercy.
Prayer Requests
1. Pray that Jason will be saved and that he and his wife (already saved) will bring their children to church.
2. Pray that a Vietnamese family in the same street will also be reached with the Gospel.
3. Pray that Tessie and her husband, a couple we met at a laundromat, will be saved and visit church.
4. Pray that this new treatment Laura has begun will give the desired results and for Laura to continue to be a positive witness of the Saviour with the medical staff at the hospital. We are hoping to return to the field in early March.
Laura and I cannot thank you enough for your continued support through this rather arduous journey. We want to be sure to wish you all a very Merry Christmas as we remember the Saviour’s birth.
Again, all to the glory of God and our awesomely wondrous Saviour,
Andrew L. Steers
