Psalm 150:6 – “Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.” God is so worthy of our praise! Laura celebrates her 50th spiritual birthday on April 29, and though I do not know the date, I do know it has been at least 51 years since I was saved. We both can testify of God’s faithfulness, protection, provision, mercy, and grace for over half a century. He has never failed us nor forsaken us. We want to use our testimony to encourage the next generation to trust our great Saviour as well.
March was a busy month for us. I celebrated a “milestone” birthday, which I must admit was a sobering reminder of how short life is and how quickly we are all headed to eternity. That realization gives added impetus to be even more vigilant in seeking the lost. We praise the Lord for the souls He has let us see saved while here, but we are asking Him for more! Though not seeking meetings, I was asked to preach in three churches since our last letter.
It has been almost a year since accompanying Laura to Indiana to receive cancer treatment that was not available in Australia at that time. The PET scan she had upon arrival gave a gloomy prognosis. The cancer had spread throughout her bones and vital organs. Praise the Lord, she is still alive almost a year later, and her cancer markers have been good. Her doctor has remarked that she is a miracle. Please pray that she will get good results from her most recent PET scan as well. We are currently preparing to return to the field on May 1. The chemotherapy treatment is now available in Australia. We are eager to get back to the church and work there. Please pray that Laura will do well physically on the long trip back. The treatments make her extremely fatigued, so travelling is a challenge for her.
Our time in the States has been healing, both physically and spiritually. Praise the Lord that I avoided catastrophic knee surgery by getting a second opinion here. A carbon-fiber leg brace was a more practical solution for the long term, and it has proven to be a great help in my walking ability.
We would be remiss if we did not take the time to thank you all for your support and prayers. We especially want to thank all those who have sent special offerings for medical expenses. We appreciate all the cards and words of encouragement sent for Christmas, our anniversary, and Laura’s and my birthday. We regret that we have not been able to reply to each of you individually, but please know that your kindness and thoughtfulness do not go unnoticed. The Lord has used you to encourage these missionaries. One note arrived the very day that Laura was struggling extra physically and facing a difficult situation; she felt that encouragement came directly from the Lord. We praise the Lord for each of you.
All to the glory of God, and our wondrous Saviour,
Bro. Andrew L. Steers
