  • Andrew Steers Prayer Letter: A Distinct, Ongoing Sense of the Lord's Presence“Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.”
    Habakkuk 3:18

When the difficulties or challenges of life come your way, how do you respond? While it has been a lonely time on and off since Laura “skipped town” (as one prefers to think) by making a seemingly premature exit for Glory, there has been a distinct, ongoing sense of the Lord’s presence. One is not so much looking at an empty front-passenger seat in the car, but talking with the Lord as if He has replaced Laura’s physical presence. This applies to both short drives as well as long-haul trips and truly represents an ideal relationship, which every believer should yearningly aspire, for without Him, we can do nothing.

A few weeks ago, I was invited to preach at a Friday night Reformers Unanimous meeting at First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana. While no one came forward for salvation during the invitation, it was a pleasant surprise to hear several days later of one of the attendees being stirred enough from the preaching that he finally ended up deciding to get baptized during the next Sunday morning service. Talk about having the joy of the Lord on hearing such news!

If that wasn’t enough, while making a brief stop at a rest area along an interstate highway in Michigan between furlough meetings, I was privileged to meet Rob (in his 30s), who gladly received Jesus into his heart after being personally challenged with the life-changing message of the precious Gospel of Jesus Christ. Again, though, it is the joy of the Lord in one’s willingness to please Him.

    Please pray:
    1. That Rob finds a good, Bible-preaching, Bible-believing church.
    2. That the Lord will continue to help me see more souls come to know the Saviour and see more transformed lives for the glory of God.
    3. That while back in Indiana, I will be able to keep abreast of the need to reach people like Cory and Kyle, two men who still need to appreciate their need of Christ.

As bigger challenges are anticipated in the days ahead, there persists one underlying sense of the Lord’s presence. Who else does one need during this transition of marriage to singlehood? Jesus has always been the answer; He always will be, married or not. Would to God that more of us would sense the same.

Thank you again for your ongoing support. Many of you have gone over, above, and beyond in your support, especially in these past few years during the heightened time of Laura’s cancer treatment. Praise God for her defiance of every medical prediction. She kept her eyes on the One Who made all the difference, impacting so many who were influenced by her consistent testimony of God’s amazing grace. Please, Lord, help the rest of us do the same as we approach this special time of year in celebrating your birth into the world.

All to the glory of God, and our wondrous Saviour,

    Bro. Andrew L. Steers
