Dan and Deb Rothwell Prayer Letter: Modern-Day Philip Opportunities“Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.” (Acts 8:29)

Hafa Adai from the beautiful island of Guam.

Since the last update, there were occasions when I felt like Philip, approaching idling vehicles or ones that had parked near where I was in hopes of talking to the drivers about the Gospel. With each occurrence, I was able to lead the drivers to the Lord, and in a couple of incidents, I led the passengers to the Lord too. It is amazing when the Lord orchestrates occasions like that, and I am blessed to be a part of them.

One incident began with me walking along a sidewalk, noticing a lady ahead of me. In hopes of a soul-winning opportunity, I caught up with her and asked if I had spoken to her before. She stopped walking and looked puzzled. This pause gave me time to introduce myself and ask her if she were to die, would she go to Heaven. Surprised by the question, her eyebrows lifted, and her eyes widened, indicating she was not sure. After I explained the Gospel and we were about to pray, a vehicle drove by slowly with the driver’s window down, with the driver looking at us. He parked close by. I asked if she knew the driver, hoping he was not a jealous boyfriend. She said no. So we prayed, and she received Christ into her heart as her Saviour. After we finished praying, she surprised me by spontaneously raising her hand for a high-five, which I fist-bumped. I took a moment to assure her of salvation, then said I was going to go check on the guy in the parked vehicle. We said our goodbyes, and she went on her way.

The driver’s window was down, so I asked him how he was doing. He said he had pulled over to “chill out” and finish his beverage. I introduced myself and asked if he would go to Heaven when he died. He did not know and allowed me to lead him to Christ. Of all the places he could have parked to “chill out,” he just so happened to park by a soul winner. For June and July, the Lord used me personally to lead 42 people to Christ.

The Lord continues to bless Island Baptist Church. Our faithful folks have seen the Lord do amazing things in their lives, even blessing with an unprecedented, immediate job repositioning laterally from a toxic environment to a safe, anxiety-free one. He works on their behalf by helping them reach their family and friends for the Lord, bringing some to church. Another unexpected opportunity He orchestrated for early retirement was a great blessing for the one who took it. The Lord loves and cares for His people and shows it by helping and blessing them in their real-world wants and needs, along with their spiritual health and growth.

Thank you for being a blessing to us, faithfully praying and supporting our ministry. We feel blessed by it. Please continue to pray for our health and safety, Island Baptist Church, Guam, and Micronesia. And please pray that the Lord continues to show Himself in our lives and ministry.

In His harvest field,
