I’m writing to share some life-changing experiences I had in June, July, and August 2025. On June 4, while walking in downtown San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina, I had a stroke. A kind street vendor helped me find a coffee shop to rest in, and then five police officers arrived to assist me. They called an ambulance. I tried to call my wife, but I was barely able to talk or hold the phone. I managed to reach my son Ezekiel though. The ambulance took me to a local hospital, and I spent the first 24 hours in the emergency room. My wife arrived after I got there, and we stayed in the ICU for seven more days.
During my stay, they conducted various tests to determine the cause of my stroke. The public hospital lacked enough nurses, so my wife, sons, and a few church members took turns caring for me. They even stayed with me all night! The hospital staff provided excellent care during those challenging days.
I’m incredibly grateful for God’s mercy in sparing my life. It could have been much worse. My left leg, arm, and hand were paralyzed, and my speech was also affected. With the help of our son Benjamin, we were able to fly back to the USA on June 22. Our home church generously bought our tickets, and they also helped us rent a house in Iowa City, Iowa.
My main focus now is to rest and recover. I’m seeing a therapist in Kalona, Iowa, and a doctor here in Iowa regularly. Our home church has been incredibly supportive, helping us furnish our new home. Praise the Lord! I’m able to walk now and am starting to regain the function of my left arm and hand. My speech is also improving. (Brian is left-handed, so he can’t write yet. He really appreciates your prayers for him. — Liesl) I’m hoping to recover in the next few months and return to Argentina.
Our current address is 2766 – 500th Street Southwest, Iowa City, IA 52240. Our phone number is (319) 383-2076.
