Dustin came to know Christ as his Saviour at Bethel Baptist Church through the means of an AWANA program when he was in 3rd grade. Dustin’s family was reached by their sending church in 2004 through a VBS program, and they have attended ever since. Dustin was called to full-time Christian service at a First Baptist Church of Hammond Youth Conference. Dustin was called to the mission field at a Shawnee Baptist Church Youth Conference in 11th grade. This eventually led him to study at Hyles-Anderson College, where he majored in missions, minored in pastoral theology, and met his wife Hilda.

Hilda grew up in a pastor’s home and came to know the Lord as her Saviour when she was five years old. She got the assurance of her salvation during her first year at Hyles-Anderson College. Hilda always had a heart for the ministry and told God she would do whatever He wanted her to do, as long as He showed her. She graduated from Hyles-Anderson College with a degree in education and secretarial work and was ready to move home and work at her father’s church in Sacramento, California, but was swept off her feet by her now husband.

  • Dustin and Hilda Schurg Prayer Letter: Activity, Blessings, and Fresh EncouragementGreetings from the road! The months of May and June were filled with activity, blessings, and fresh encouragement from the Lord as we continued down the deputation trail. God has been so good to us—we’ve seen His provision, His people, and His power at work in many places.

May Meetings—From California to the Crossroads

May was a full and fruitful month. We began in Fullerton, California, at Cornerstone Baptist Church with our dear friends, Joey Diaz and Prince Weah-Weah. It was a breath of fresh air to see God working in such a vibrant way there. From there, we headed to Manteca, California, where we had the privilege of being with our cousin, David Rangel. We were encouraged by the genuine spirit of fellowship among very real, faithful people.

Next, we traveled to Santa Maria, California, for a powerful Missions Conference at Iglesia Bautista Buen Pastor, where Pastor Emilio Balderas, a fellow HAC graduate, welcomed us warmly. There was powerful preaching and real decisions made for Christ—we were thrilled to be a part of it. We closed out the California circuit at Calvary Baptist Church in American Canyon. It’s always refreshing to see churches that have been faithfully serving the Lord for decades. That meeting reminded us once again that God’s work continues strong in places we don’t always hear about.

After that, we made the 2,000-mile drive back to Indiana to begin our summer schedule. God provided me with a work opportunity during our six-week stay here—what a blessing! I also had the privilege to officiate the wedding of my brother Daylan and his wife Dalaney—a sweet and special moment for our whole family.

June Meetings–Gospel Momentum in the Midwest

Our June meetings began at Calvary Baptist Church in Gilbertsville, Kentucky. (We’re pretty sure Calvary Baptist might be the most common church name—and for good reason—what a powerful reminder of our Saviour’s sacrifice!) This was a special meeting. We felt right at home, and the spirit of the church reminded us of our own sending church.

From there, we were with Calvary Baptist Church in Crawfordsville, Indiana, which is pastored by Randy Glenn. He has impacted my life deeply through preaching over the years, and it was an encouragement just to be in his presence again. We also visited El Bethel Baptist Church, where Pastor Dale was unfortunately sick, but we enjoyed sweet fellowship with his church family.

Just this past Sunday, we were with Faith Baptist Church in Whiting, Indiana, which is pastored by Tim Moore, a dear friend from our HAC days. The air conditioning may have gone out, but God met with us in that service. Catching up with old friends has been one of the unexpected highlights of deputation.

    Praises

    • Five more churches have partnered with us for support since our last update!
    • I’ve had many opportunities to share the Gospel with coworkers while working during our Indiana stay.
    • Four souls were saved at our home church’s VBS—a sweet reminder that 20 years ago, my family was reached through that same ministry!
    • God provided a generous work opportunity through my former employer, supplying well beyond our needs. I’m grateful for a tent-making opportunity much like Paul’s—God truly provides in His own way and timing.

    Prayer Requests

    • Safety for Hilda and the baby, due in September
    • Relief from shoulder and back pain, as old injuries have flared up with work
    • Upcoming summer and fall meetings—for fruit and new partnerships
    • Open doors and continued momentum as we raise support at God’s pace

Thank you for praying, giving, and standing with us. We couldn’t do this without you. Every mile we drive, every soul we witness to, and every church we encourage, we do it on your account also. May the Lord richly bless you as you serve where God has planted you.

    For His glory,

    Dustin & Hilda Schurg
