Dustin came to know Christ as his Saviour at Bethel Baptist Church through the means of an AWANA program when he was in 3rd grade. Dustin’s family was reached by their sending church in 2004 through a VBS program, and they have attended ever since. Dustin was called to full-time Christian service at a First Baptist Church of Hammond Youth Conference. Dustin was called to the mission field at a Shawnee Baptist Church Youth Conference in 11th grade. This eventually led him to study at Hyles-Anderson College, where he majored in missions, minored in pastoral theology, and met his wife Hilda.

Hilda grew up in a pastor’s home and came to know the Lord as her Saviour when she was five years old. She got the assurance of her salvation during her first year at Hyles-Anderson College. Hilda always had a heart for the ministry and told God she would do whatever He wanted her to do, as long as He showed her. She graduated from Hyles-Anderson College with a degree in education and secretarial work and was ready to move home and work at her father’s church in Sacramento, California, but was swept off her feet by her now husband.

  • Dustin and Hilda Schurg Prayer Letter: A New ArrivalWe thank the Lord for His goodness over these past several weeks. Our travels picked up at Marion Avenue Baptist Church, where we had the privilege of being a part of one of the most wonderful Missions Conferences we have ever attended. The people at Marion Avenue made a lasting impact on us, and we will never forget their kindness and heart for the Lord.

The following Sunday, we were with a longtime friend and college professor, Pastor Waterhouse, and the dear people of Bethel Baptist Church. What a vibrant and thriving ministry it is. We were encouraged to see their passion for reaching the lost and sincerely enjoyed going out soul winning with a large group of believers who are determined to keep the Gospel the main thing.

We then took a month away from the road for a very special blessing we had been looking forward to for many months. On September 10, 2025, our first baby girl, Emery Lynn Schurg, was born. She has been a joy from day one. Hilda is recovering well, and Baby Emery is healthy and thriving. We are so thankful for the Lord’s goodness in our family.

To finish out this stretch of travel, we spent time with Gethsemane Baptist Church in Long Beach, California. We met Pastor Reynolds and his wife a year ago and were looking forward to being with them again. Their Missions Month was a wonderful time, and the International Dinner was one we will not forget. God used this church to encourage us before we headed on to our next meeting.

In Gilbert, Arizona, we had the opportunity to be with Pastor Leversee and Desert Gateway Baptist Church. That conference was a great mix of rest and encouragement. We met several veteran missionaries who have been faithfully serving on the field for nearly ten years. Seeing God’s faithfulness in their lives reminded us again that He always keeps His promises. We loved every moment with those dear folks and hope to visit again someday.

As we make our way back to the Midwest, we are filled with gratitude for all that the Lord has done in these past weeks.

    In Christ,
