LAWRENCE WILLIAMS FAMILY

MISSIONARY EVANGELIST

Anniversary 6/30

At the age of 8, I was walking home from school beside the railroad tracks with a few friends, when a guy approached us and showed us how to know for sure that we would go to Heaven when we died.  I bowed my head and trusted Christ to save me.  After graduating from high school, I joined the Marine Corps.  It was during this time that I met a missionary named Joe Rymer who was reaching out to the Marines and getting them in church.  He had a group of guys in a ministry called Souls for the Saviour, who would go out on Friday nights and share the gospel with folks on the street.  I had the privilege of joining these guys for 2 1/2 years.  It was there that I learned to become a soul winner.  Also, while stationed at Camp Pendleton, I went and heard Jack Hyles preach for the first time.  He preached that night on the Fullness of the Holy Spirit, and the night before he preached on Prayer.  I bought both sermons on a cassette tape and listened to them over and over.  Shortly after getting out of the Marines, I surrendered my life to serve God full time and enrolled in Hyles-Anderson College.  After graduating, my wife and I got married, then in September of 1996 I became pastor of the Bible Baptist Church in Carbondale, IL.  After serving there nine years, my wife and I, and our 3 kids moved to Hartford City, Indiana where I taught in a Christian school.  Three years later God led us to join Team Ghana in West Africa. It was there that I had the opportunity to win a multitude of people to Christ, primarily in schools and villages.  After six years, God called our family back to America.  A year later, I was hired to work as an assistant pastor in the evangelism department at First Baptist Church.  During this time, I also had the opportunity to teach personal evangelism in our Bible institute and at Hyles Anderson College.

My wife, Tammy (Sober), was 12 years old, when the Holy Spirit began to work in her heart and convict her of the fact that she was a sinner and was on her way to Hell.  She had already heard the Gospel but had never been saved.  After several sleepless nights of wondering if she would die and wake up in Hell, she, alone, went to the backroom of her house, knelt beside the chair and received Christ as her Saviour.  After graduation from high school, Tammy attended, graduated, and worked as an Assistant Dorm Supervisor at Hyles-Anderson College where we met and were married.  Our children, Charity, Joshua, and Angela are all grown, graduated from Hyles-Anderson College, married, and are all serving the Lord in various capacities along with their spouses. We now have three grandchildren and one on the way.

Currently, we are caring for my wife’s aging parents in Dodge City, Kansas.  However, God has begun to open the door for us to evangelize in several states. While we are a bit “home bound,” we are actively involved in the ministry and soul winning of our home church during the week. Our desire is to still travel on the weekends to raise support and encourage pastors and churches in the areas of revival, missions, and soul winning.  Our plan is to be completely prepared and fully supported by the time the Lord calls Tammy’s parents home to Heaven.  Once that happens, we will go full steam ahead.  Our desire is to encourage pastors and churches here in the United States and around the world.  Our ministry focus is walking with God, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and soul winning.  We also, plan to take trips each year to encourage missionaries and churches abroad. It is our strong desire not only to see souls saved, but also to help people to know God’s will and to carry it out.  Our prayer is that God will bring revival to America, that more laborers will join in the Harvest, and that we together will saturate every nation of the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • Lawrence and Tammy Williams Prayer Letter: Bible Giveaways Each Saturday in DecemberRomans 10:9, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

In spite of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we were able to conduct Bible giveaways each Saturday in the month of December. First, we were in the small town of Kinsley, Kansas, where we were able to set up our canopy in the Dollar General parking lot. In 3 hours, we gave away 21 Bibles, and 2 people accepted Christ. I was so encouraged when I saw a diesel truck passing as he applied his squeaky brakes. Thinking he was just slowing down to make a turn, I jokingly told my wife, “He’s coming back to get a Bible.” We continued holding up our signs and waving at the passing vehicles. Suddenly, that same semitruck with squeaky brakes was back and stopping in front of us, blocking his side of a two-lane road. I ran to the table, grabbed an old-fashioned King James Bible, along with a Gospel tract, jumped up on his step side, and handed them to him through his open window. He thanked me and drove off.

On Saturday, December 13, the anticipated day had arrived. It was 19 degrees outside, but on this day, we had permission from the local mall to set up our canopy near the water fountain, not far from where Santa Clause was sitting and taking pictures with the little children. We posted our signs, in both Spanish and English, and started giving out Bibles and candy canes to those who were interested. Nine soul winners from Iglesia Templo Bautista showed up, and the excitement began. After 3 hours had passed, 79 Bibles had been given away and 7 people had trusted Christ as their Saviour. What a day!

As we approached the end of the month, the weather had turned unseasonably warm again, so we set up in the parking lot of a strip mall. Since Dodge City has such a high volume of Spanish-speaking people, the Spanish soul winners came to help again. On several occasions, there were 3 or 4 cars pulled up, with a soul winner at each one sharing the Gospel. At one particular moment, a car pulled up with 2 men who only spoke Spanish. I gave them both a Spanish Bible and a tract from the Spanish church. I turned around in desperation looking for help and saw Pastor Santana, who quickly came to my rescue and led the 2 men to Christ. Praise the Lord for tag-team soul winning! When we were all done for the day, 11 people had trusted Christ as their Saviour, and 48 Bibles had been given away.

While in Spearman, Texas, my wife and I walked into a Mexican restaurant. I noticed a Bible verse on the wall and Joshua 1:8 on all of the napkin holders. Upon checking out, I pulled out a Gospel tract and gave it to the cashier named Gloria. I asked her about the Bible verses, and she said that the owner was a Christian and had told her she should go to church. She told me she needed to work on Sundays to pay her bills and that she did her praying at home. She then said that she always asked God to help her. Figuring that God had sent me in answer to her prayer, I shared the Gospel with Gloria, and she trusted Christ as Saviour. While wiping tears from her eyes, she said, “I needed that.” Praise the Lord!

Thank you all for your prayers and financial support. Please continue to pray for grace to care for my wife’s parents, for souls to be saved, for safety as we travel and preach, and for us to raise the support still needed to do God’s work. May God bless you as you continue to serve Him.

    Sincerely,

    Lawrence Williams
