ABRAM GOMEZ

ON DEPUTATION TO TEAM GHANA

ABOUT

Abram 01/29

I was born and raised in what I would call a backslidden Baptist home in East Los Angeles. I was taught good doctrine in church and private school but scarcely showed the love of God or a Christ-like example at home. Even so, at nine years old, I accepted Christ as my Saviour and had it in my heart that I was supposed to be a missionary to Africa. I never stopped going to church, but as I grew older, my heart grew colder toward the things of God. As I got into my teen and young-adult years, I gravitated to a life of worldliness; and, as a result, the burdens and tragedies of a sinful life grew heavier and heavier.

When the chastisement of the Lord grew heaviest in my late twenties, I decided that I would stop fighting God and quit living for myself. In desperation, I finally fell to my knees and surrendered my life to Him. In the years that followed, the Lord began to transform me and lead me into ministry. I was excited to serve the Lord in soul winning, teaching, bus route, Bible college, etc.; but even in the midst of ministry, I soon perceived that I had hit a wall in my personal growth and was thus led to Victory Baptist Church in Chino, California, where I began to grow (where I needed to the most) and experience the transformation my heart so longed for. Pastor Brian Pattison helped me to overcome lifelong insecurities and discover the will of God for my life. To put it simply, he was a faithful friend. We went soul winning together, served in Skid Row together, and went on a missions trip together; he even helped me get to what would eventually be my mission field: Ghana, West Africa.

Serving at a homeless rescue mission had a tremendous effect on my heart, especially in regards to missionary work. I bugged my pastor quite a bit about mission trips until he eventually helped me go to Ghana twice: called on the first trip, confirmed on the second. Since that second trip (January – February 2025), I’ve restructured my life to get back to Ghana as soon as I can to reunite with my friends and converts and reach more people with the Gospel for the glory of God.

Now, I am thankful to be living out God’s plan for my life. That same purpose He called me to in third grade: to be a full-time missionary in West Africa, reaching people with the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I will be joining Team Ghana in winning souls, discipling converts, and training ministry leaders through the efforts of our church, Fundamental Baptist Church International, and our college, Hyles-Anderson College of West Africa.

Specifically, I will assist national pastors in developing businesses that will allow them to provide for and grow their churches. I will be teaching, mentoring, and counseling at our Bible college, as well as assisting in the media department.

LATEST

  • Abram Gomez Prayer Letter: Encouraged to Be a BarnabasI was preaching on Barnabas the other night when it all came together. God has been providing so much encouragement through so many Barnabas-like figures who have been such a help to me on deputation (my pastors, other pastors, fellow missionaries, new and old friends, etc.). Where would we be had it not been for a Barnabas who came along to help and encourage us in our time of need, and how could we, as believers, not seek to be a Barnabas for another in need? This has become a conviction of mine and an integral part of my ministry during deputation. So many pastors, missionaries, friends, and strangers have shown up to help me in times and ways that it could have only been of God. I am thereby humbled and encouraged to be a Barnabas to those I meet on this Gospel journey and to encourage churches I visit to do the same.

    Recent Highlights

    • I was encouraged at FBMI’s Missions Mastermind in Bangkok in September.
    • I encouraged Chris, whom I discipled last year, while he taught me how to fish!
    • Solid connections were made at World Missions Conference in La Verne, California.
    • While preaching on Barnabas (and the Gospel) in Warsaw, Indiana, on October 5, I was able to see a couple saved during Missions Sunday! Praise God for Dustin and Cynthia’s decisions!

The goodness of God leads me/us to repentance. The goodness of God leads us to turn, to change, to grow. I always tell people that deputation is more about God preparing my heart than my bank account. Now don’t get me wrong, I definitely need the financial support, but it is spiritual transformation that is most needed to make the greatest impact for the Gospel. Please continue to pray that God would change me in the areas where I need to change and that God would use me to encourage churches on deputation as I’m constantly traveling across the USA.

    Please Pray Specifically . . .

    • For my safety and for more salvations on the road.
    • That I would be a Barnabas to the churches I visit.
    • That I would fill my schedule with more meetings.
    • That I would gain more monthly supporters and get back to Ghana by spring.
And please, don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know how I can be a Barnabas to you!

For the sake of the Gospel,
