“Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” —Matthew 9:37-38
One of the desires of Fundamental Baptist Missions International is to help prepare missionaries to serve Jesus effectively on the mission field. To do this, we ask all potential missionaries to participate in our annual Candidate School.
FBMI’s Candidate School is a vital step in becoming an FBMI missionary. We want all applicants to understand the commitment of being an FBMI missionary, and Candidate School is part of that education process. Consider these words of Jesus:
“And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them, If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?” —Luke 14:25-28
In the verses above, Jesus told the multitudes following Him to count the cost of discipleship. He was teaching that potential disciples needed to count the cost before making a commitment. Similarly, Candidate School is a time for both missionary candidates and the leadership of FBMI to consider whether or not to commit to this long-term ministry relationship together.
The week of Candidate School includes practical, principled, and proven lessons taught by an excellent group of experienced missionaries and leaders. Dozens of vital subjects are covered in detail. Candidates are encouraged to ask questions and actively participate in these special learning times. In addition to many hours of teaching, Candidate School also allows missionaries to build lasting relationships through the special, meaningful activities that we offer. Each year, missionary candidates enjoy spending fun time with each other, as well as with FBMI’s leadership and office team.
After completing Candidate School and the associated requirements, candidates are informed of their acceptance status. Once accepted as an FBMI missionary, an individual or family is ready to take the next steps together. We have made the commitment to serve them in partnership with their sending church and to help assist them in laboring in the “harvest” to which they have been sent by God.
Missions University
Missions University is an opportunity for all missionaries to share and receive ongoing education centered around the work of missions.
Missions University is designed for you . . .
To learn from other missionaries
Short, specific presentations and lessons will be shared by veteran missionaries and people with areas of expertise. Some of these lessons will be introductions into forum discussions, and many will be dedicated teaching sessions.
To contribute to other missionaries
During this week you will intersect with other missionaries operating parallel to you. Deputation missionaries will discuss best practices both with each other and with newly accepted missionaries. Veteran missionaries will share insights and discuss challenges together.
To grow with other missionaries
The goal is for everyone to grow for the glory of God. It may be that one take-a-way makes a pivotal change for you. It could be that a new relationship is initiated with another missionary or ministry that leverages both ministries. We look forward to growing with you at Missions University.
But the word of God grew and multiplied.

Enjoy various provisions and tracks for your family.
Your entire family is invited to join us for a picnic on July 17 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The picnic will take place at the pavilion of Wicker Memorial Park, located at 8554 Indianapolis Blvd, Highland, IN 46322. Here is a map of the park. The pavilion is labeled with letter A on the map.
While the picnic will be a casual event, the attire for the rest of the week will be shirt and tie.
Each day the Missions University sessions will begin at 8:30 AM. This will be a combined session before any breakaway forums begin.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided throughout Missions University, and Youth Conference dinners will be available during evening breaks of the conference. The mealtimes always become a productive time of fellowship with other missionaries.
The cost is $100 per missionary. Missionary spouses and nursery-aged children are free. This price includes all of the sessions, giveaways, materials, and activities from Monday through Thursday.
Your children are in for a treat. We have a fun week prepared for them that they will be sure to remember. A program full of games, food, and activities will be provided. If your children are participating, you will bring them to Missions University at 8:15 AM each day to have breakfast and begin their journey. The cost is $25 per child from 4-years-old to 5th grade.
If you have any young people attending the FBC Youth Conference during the week, they can register with the FBC Youth Department and participate as part of the FBC Youth Group. Our First Baptist Church youth pastor and wife are Bro. and Mrs. Abdel Judah.
We are looking forward to seeing you! Feel free to contact our office directly with any questions.
